Analysis: The veteran third baseman, who is 48 hits away from 3,000 in his career, hurt the ankle when he hit first base awkwardly on an RBI fielder's choice grounder in the first inning Tuesday night. Beltre stayed in the game and got his 2,852nd career hit but was removed for a pinch runner after a walk in the sixth and hasn't played since. Texas waited until after Beltre went through infield drills and batting practice before posting its lineup about 90 minutes before the game. However, his MRI reportedly came back clean and he returned to the Rangers' lineup on Thursday.
Analysis: The 38-year-old Beltre said he injured the muscle working out at his home in California. It looks as though he'll be fine for the WBC.
