Analysis: Vargas carried a 1.01 ERA into the game, but allowed as many runs in the fourth inning - five - as he had in his first seven starts combined. The veteran left-hander had his home unbeaten streak snapped at 10 games. ''He just wasn't sharp," manager Ned Yost said. Maybe Vargas's abysmal night shouldn't have been that much of a surprise. He's 0-6 with a 7.15 ERA in 10 outings - nine starts - against the Yankees.

Analysis: The major league ERA leader has allowed one or no runs in six of his seven outings this season. Over his last three starts, Vargas has given up one run over 19 innings. His 1.01 ERA is the lowest in the majors (at least 30 innings) at the end of play on May 11th since Colorado's Ubaldo Jimenez (0.93) in 2010. The last AL pitcher to be this low was the Royals' Zack Greinke (0.51) in 2009.

Analysis: After missing all of last season recovering from Tommy John surgery, Vargas has allowed only one run across 20 2/3 innings in winning each of his three 2017 starts. That's enough of a sample size for fantasy owners to fell confident using the 34-year-old in all formats.
